Heater finder
Narrow the 1,138 certified model numbers by type, rated volume and first-hour rating or flow, then tick up to three rating sets to put them side by side. Every value is the DOE test figure from the ENERGY STAR list.

- UEFs from different draw patterns are not directly comparable. How draw patterns work.
- Annual energy is only compared within one draw pattern and one unit (kWh or therms).
How to use
Pick a type first: the other fields change with it, because tanks are rated by first-hour output and tankless units by flow. Leave a field empty to keep every value. The address bar keeps your filters, so a link to this page reopens the same list.
Ticking a box adds the set to the comparison; the first ticked set is A, and the difference rows measure B and C against it. Nothing here is a recommendation: the tool filters and compares certified test values only.
What the numbers mean
- First-hour rating
- Gallons of hot water a full tank delivers in one hour of the DOE test.
- Max flow at a 67 °F rise
- Gallons per minute a tankless unit sustains while heating 58 °F water to 125 °F.
- UEF
- Uniform Energy Factor: delivered hot-water energy divided by energy used over the 24-hour test. Compare it only within one draw pattern.
- Draw pattern
- The DOE usage profile (very small, low, medium, high) the model was tested at, assigned from its first-hour rating or flow.
